چکیده

The susceptibilities of laboratory and field-collected western corn rootworm populations (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte) to methyl-parathion and aldrin were estimated by topical application of insecticide during 2002 to determine the stability of resistance in the absence of selective pressures. Most of the laboratory-reared and field-collected populations were significantly resistant to both insecticides. Average LD50 values of laboratory and field-collected populations were 19and 13-fold greater than the susceptible population in methyl-parathion bioassays, respectively, and 204and 125-fold greater in the aldrin bioassays, respectively. The presence of aldrin and methyl-parathion resistance in field-collected populations strongly suggests that both resistance traits are stable in the absence of selection pressure and that neither mechanism is associated with a strong fitness disadvantage. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Genetic Differentiation of Western Corn Rootworm Populations (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Relative to Insecticide Resistance

As the single most important pest of field corn, Zea mays L., throughout most of the Corn Belt, the western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), has undergone repeated selection for resistance to a variety of insecticides that persist widely among Nebraska populations. In this study, we used 11 microsatellite markers to genotype two populations with...

European populations of Diabrotica virgifera virgifera are resistant to aldrin, but not to methyl-parathion

The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is a major pest of cultivated corn in North America and has recently begun to invade Europe. In addition to crop rotation, chemical control is an important option for D. v. virgifera management. However, resistance to chemical insecticides has evolved repeatedly in the USA. In Europe, chemical control...

INSECTICIDE RESISTANCE AND RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT Characterization of General Esterases from Methyl Parathion-Resistant and -Susceptible Populations of Western Corn Rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

A consistent correlation between elevated esterase activity and methyl parathion resistance among Nebraska western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, populations has previously been documented. Characterization of general esterase activity using naphtholic esters as model substrates indicated that differences between resistant and susceptible strains could be maximized by op...

Cytochrome P450-Mediated N-Demethylation Activity and Induction in Insecticide-Resistant and Susceptible Western Corn Rootworm Populations (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)

Elevated cytochrome P450 monooxygenase-based metabolism is associated with carbaryl and methyl parathion resistance in western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte) populations in the state of Nebraska. The objectives of this study were to identify potential differences in cytochrome P450 in resistant and susceptible rootworm populations using the model substrate 4-chloro-N-met...

Larval susceptibility of an insecticide-resistant western corn rootworm (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) population to soil insecticides: laboratory bioassays, assays of detoxification enzymes, and field performance.

Soil insecticides were evaluated in laboratory and field studies against larvae of an insecticide resistant population (Phelps County, NE) of western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte. Insecticide toxicity was evaluated by topical application of technical insecticides to 3rd instars from Saunders County, NE (susceptible) and Phelps County populations. Resistance ratios (LD50...
